[V8] re: tires et al

Yes, and Route 9, aka "The Airline" can be a real treat, too.  I once poked
across it in a snowstorm from Calais to Ellsworth in the dark, driving a
very surefooted Audi 4000 Coupe.  Couldn't see a darned thing, and had to
stop about every five miles to clean off the lousy small, rectangular
headlights.  Anyway, about twenty miles east of Calais, I began to see the
bright flash of headlights on the top of the hill behind me. Eventually,
those headlights closed to right behind me.  It sure looked like a big, GM
car in my rear view mirror.  "State Trooper," I thought.  I couldn't imagine
who else could be out there in the middle of the night, all dark, and snowy.
By the time we got to North Ellsworth, on a straighter piece of road, the
guy pulled out and flew past me like I was tied.

It was a hearse.
