... I've heard of them going for cheaper than that with lower mileage ... I
paid in that ballpark for #2, which had 125K, and even though it had a bunch
of engine work was still burning oil ... and which proceeded to toss a
timing belt a couple months later. To my mind I figured that at that price,
I could put a new engine in it and still feel I got a deal ... little did I
know that was going to need doing so soon though! I figured that since the
TB was done with the recent head work that I'd be OK for a while ...

As much as I hate to think about it, for that price you'd want to make sure
that maintenance items are in order ... timing belt, brakes, hydraulic
system, no ECU codes, and the car should be in pretty good cosmetic shape.
The positive things to keep in mind is that you're getting one of very few
cars that were imported to the US, and a car that is a complete blast to
drive. I had to chuckle when I saw that earlier post ... so are MTs worth
more than the automatics? IMNSHO decidedly yes! There weren't many
comparable cars available back in those days. I do so love the jump you get
off the line with the 5-speed, and its also fun to be able to break a tire
or few loose in a turn when you want to ... :-) In fact I've got #344
parked downstairs in the parking lot today and am looking forward to a bit
of fun here in few minutes ... sure beats the prospects of riding a
motorcycle home in the rain ... again ...

PS - the main reason I'm able to drive to work is that we just got #2 back
from the body shop over the weekend!
