Would it be so wonderful to be able to lay the blame on Maine's own Gestapo,
which is what we call the Department of Transportation.

Unfortunately ALL we have up here is macadam surface, and then, just two
lane, fairly narrow and winding and uneven.

My mechanic and I are at wits end to think up what it could be. A bearing
noise should either be there or not; a half shaft, for example, should be
there or not; if it were in the internatls of the transmission...a gear set
somehow, then it should be affected by speed in the gears....it is not.

My grand plan is to wait until something falls off. THEN I'll know what it
is. In the meantime, the car is gonna get what it needs to be a 100%
driver, and after the few things that are needed are fixed, it will go to
the body shop for refreshing.

Then something will happen in just the wrong time, I am sure.

P.S. And I am STILL thinking of grafting a V8 nose onto this car. There
are several clips available and of course, there are entire cars in various
stages of distress. Not sure how much it will end up costing, but it is a
very interesting idea, and I know that it has been done....I have pictures
sent to me teasingly by some demented soul on this list, I think. Ingo:
was it you?
