Hi Bill,

A friend of mine got the CV axle for about $60.00 at a Foreign Parts store
(Meiers in Las Vegas). Of course, you have to give them your old half axle.
You can probably get a rebuilt half axle anywhere for under $100.00 dollars
with the exchange. You do not have to pay $800.00 for that at the dealer.
That's ridiculous. Also, is the boot on the CV torn? Do you hear noises
when you turn the car into a corner? These would be signs of a bad CV.
Finally, if you do go ahead and replace, get the whole axle (actually, a
half axle) instead of trying to just replace the cv joint. Less time,
expense, and headaches. Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Can anybody give me any reasonable options to repair or replace the
drivers side axle/CV joint. Audi wants $800 plus for the part. The joint
is pitted a bit according to the shop and I'm hoping there's a more cost
effective option. Thanks, Bill
