[V8] Speedo problem - Inop Odometer

... I've never bought the argument that the damage occurs because you reset
while moving ... IMO it can happen at any time.
I've never had to look at the V8 IC, but I've got to believe that the odo
uses the same technology as the older cars with a speedo cable ... it is now
simply driven with a stepper motor. I'll bet there's still a plastic drive
gear with a metal rod driven in the middle ... which means that it is still
subject to breakage. There is probably still the issue with slippage of the
odometer wheel on the shaft ...
