[V8] Speedo problem - Inop Odometer

Had this happen on the 4k before, but when my mother said her trip odometer
on the V8 stayed at 0000 I thought maybe the button was half-pushed in or
something -- but no, neither the trip odometer nor  (as I discovered) the
true odometer are functioning (speedo is).  She said she reset while
standing still at the gas pump.    Any BTDT's before I tear apart the dash
once again?
