[V8] Alternator/capacitor?

Ok Guys,
  
   I see now, and it does charge with the wires connected - but why does
something under my dash (probably the fan for the cc cabin temp sensor)
run with everything off.  Am I connecting it wrong, I have nothing to go
on and I don't want to burn anything up - I don't have a wiring diagram
and I can go test it to see what is what but it is much easier to do if
someone just tells you what to do.
