[V8] Oil cooler lines

OK, I stand corrected on the oil cooler lines not being tranny cooler
lines. Is there any way I can bypass this "feature" in an emergency if the
rusty, oozing line lets loose in the middle of a 500-mile round-trip we
need to make next week. The connection at the cooler is wet from oil, but
not leaking yet as in drips. Is it likely to last a while?
