If you've got a stripped bolt head, then hammer on a smaller 12 point
socket (SAE works too), then twist off. Vice grips, notching the head
for removal with screwdriver, turning with a hammer and chisel and other
methods could be employed. BUT the good news is that none of this is
necessary any more, ever since twist sockets came out. Sears sells them
as do most FLAPS. Here's what they look like:

The added bonus is that you can use these sockets to remove the round
Allen heads found all over German cars, thus saving the bolts hex slot
for tightening.
