$2100 will buy a lot of parts and special tools.  Since you
have a 2nd car, buy the special tools and take your time
replacing the t-belt and relevant parts.  The procedure is
well defined.

As for the transmission, the big cause of failure seems to
be a leaking rear seal letting fluids mix. Replacing the
transmission fluid on a yearly basis would minimize the
risk and extend its life.
