[V8] Electric Cooling Fan

Noticed a bit of smoke coming from under the hood today, as I have fixed all
the old hydraulic leaks that used to cause this, I was alarmed.  I
discovered that the electric cooling fan was not wanting to spin up and the
fusible link was overheating and smoking a bit.   Sprayed some lube in the
fan and its working for now.  Anyone have any BTDT on these fans.  Do I need
to disassemble and lube, replace bearings, etc or is it time for a new one?
Dealer only, I would assume.  Any cross reference to any other Audi's?
