[V8] Electric Cooling Fan

My fan motor literally burned up for this same reason. If you catch it quick
enough, the front bearing is replaceable and cheap - like maybe $5. If it seizes
up and burns the brush board and or armature, a new motor is required (seems
like around $350 from dealer).
My advice is to take it apart now and investigate before serious damage occurs.
I did find that a fan motor from a GM pickup - probably late 80's to early 90's
vintage had a very similar fan motor - it was physically very close but lower
power and the shaft size was wrong. It DID however have the same brush board and
was an exact fit into my motor.
The front (ball) bearing is very generic. Be sure to get one rated for heavy
duty electric motor use. The rear bushing is probably not replaceable.
Due to the cost of these motors, it is definitely worthwhile to replace the
front bearing and maybe even brushes as preventive maintenance. It is a very
easy DIY job.
