[V8] Distributor rotors

... I'm pretty sure the factory used the glue on exclusively ... I've seen
quite a few V8 dizzys, and the only ones that had the set screw rotors were
the ones I installed. It sounds as though you too have the set screw type
... but in general I recommend *against* them. The registration boss on the
rotor does not index positively into the distributor shaft ... i.e. you will
get maybe 20 degrees of rotation until you tighten down the screw. I also
found the rotors did not come with set screw ... I had to scramble to Home
Depot to get them ... that was the cheapest tab I've ever had there though.
When I saw the amount the rotor could spin if the set screw came loose I
used blue Loctite on the set screw ... some of that apparently got into the
shaft area as I've had a devil of a time getting those rotors off!
As far as removing the old rotors, I've had great luck with using a large
pair of Vise Grips to apply just enough force to crack the old rotor ... at
that point it came off very cleanly ...
