A few years back I bought a similar 500SEL Euro Box at an insurance
auction, went for the reserve price ($750), nobody else went near the
car.  The car had been totalled by the insurance because someone
(probably the owner, only way to get rid of it) had taken a knife to the
interior of the car.  I entertained the idea of putting a new interior
in, but when I saw what they were getting for parts, I went the other
way.  I sold the bumpers alone for $1000,  I got good money for the
engine (Euro engine was quicker), and when all was said and done, instead
of a money pit that I would have a hard time getting rid of, I made a
very nice profit on the deal.  This was a few years ago, but if you find
the right channels through repair and auto body shops for the parts
they're worth alot more than the whole in this case.
