[V8] RE: Help! Engine Sensors

... not clear that it even makes any difference at this point.  I just took
some of the foil/fiberglass sandwich starter solenoid heat shields for a
5000T and inserted it under the heat shield the car already has when I put
it all back together.  The thing costs less than $5, so I consider it a
cheap attempt to make a $120 part last longer.  As others have pointed out,
even without the extra shield the factory parts last 10+ years, so it isn't
clear how necessary the extra shield is.  

Once the engine is running the reference sender isn't used so it isn't
likely to be the reference sender.  The one thing I noticed when the speed
sensor failed was that the tach would abruptly drop to -0- while the engine
was still spinning.   You may want to pull codes before ordering up a
sensor, there may be other faults that might cause a sudden stalling as well
... fuel pump comes to mind ...
