this is not likely to be a problem.  The original post showed a pretty
comprehensive review of the usual suspects (IMO) ... I hate to say it, but
to my mind it is getting to be more likely to be something major like
flywheel damage.  

It so happens that #2 has been showing signs of the thermal issues with the
reference sensor ... so I had to do a swap last night.  I've been thinking
about trying to study what the signal looks like and how much it degrades
... so that I could build a little box that enhances the signal from the
sensors so that the ECU is happy.  Something like this would very likely
also help the damaged flywheel teeth situation ...
