Oh, yes, having a knowledgeable friend is wonderful.  But some
of our listers have yet to make that connection; for many of
them, this list is that knowledgeable friend.  If someone is
truly stuck (no money, no mechanic friend, no dealer near by),
then I'd hate to dissuade them from trying to work on the car
themselves.  Maybe in a year or two, they will become that
knowledgeable friend.
