I am almost certain that David Head has the rack replacement well
documented in the archives somewhere, just can't locate it right now,
but found this tidbit from Shawn Head:
You definitely want to disconnect the two knock sensor connectors
before you
start anything. They are the connectors that are mounted on the fuel
rails
on either side of the plenums. They are easily broken when you try to
lay
down on the engine to get a better angle on the rack. Also, be sure to
take
care when fussing with the rack so as not to damage the kick down
switch.
This is definitely easier if you have a helper (right dad) =). Not
neccesarily the disconnecting part of the job, but the removal, and
insertion of the rack. There are a lot of thing that it can catch it
on
the way out. I did mine pretty much on my own except for the removal
and
istallation and a few bolts I couldn't loosen. I also helped dad do a
lot
of the Red V8 a couple years back.
Definitely a doable job. I do recommend getting the pump to rack line
replaced with a dealer part. Mine was leaking, got it rebuilt by
Aeroquip
and it caused my car to cavatate VIOLENTLY!!! Also be sure not to over
torque the Banjo bolts....right keith
