[V8] (no subject)

My V8's fuel pump is getting progressively noisier. When I bought it a few 
months ago I didn't notice any noise. I think it's on its way out, but want to 
check the in-tank pump's screen for blockage. 

I have done a search and while there are many posts about the f/p noise, not 
much about the process to get to the pump, except the mallet and screw 
driver 'tool' method to take off the cover plate on the tank itself. Any other 
tips or problems I should know about with this procedure? 

Also, the in-line filter was replaced about 2000miles ago as the previous owner 
was complaining about surging on the hwy (no signs of it now). Any way you can 
confirm the condition of a fuel filter short of replacing it with a new one?
