No the 3.6 and 4.2 heads are different, head gaskets are different. Cams are
different, all indicating a different cylinder spacing. In Audi's 4.2 new
product info circular it states that the cylinder spacing was increased to
compensate for the larger bore. So I'd be willing to bet the 4.2 crank will
not fit a 3.6.
This poses an interesting question... Unless you have a 4.2 crank lying
around, you'll have to buy a complete engine unless you can find a destroyed
one. Those engine's aren't exactly cheap... But wait I do have a 4.2 engine
that has seen better days..
