Had a 1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme station wagon which I thought was one of the
most reliable and useable cars we ever owned. Over the 12 years I had it, I
never had any drive train problems with it, only had to replace the radiator,
and the alternator on it, and those were items that I could do on that car
myself. It was perfect for the highway and city driving we did in the NJ/NY
metro area. My wife absolutely hated that car, not the right image for her.
She loved the 1978 Toyota Celica, which I thought handled just as badly as
the 1979 BMW 320 we had. The Toyota had to have the head gasket replaced
every 60k miles.
The one car that everyone in the family liked was the 1982 Audi 5000. While it
was a bit under powered the handling was good, fit and finish were superb and
the car never quit.
