Watch out using Brake Cleaner on plastic. It will eat into the surface. I use "Caig MCL" and it works great! A little pricey, but worth it. My plastic is free from deformations.

I have been holding out on reporting this - just to make sure the fix
is not
destructive - and so far so good.

My Bose volume switch got so bad (noisy) that it was unusable. I used
to repair
car stereos and have never had much luck with any of the comercial
cleaners
available then (~1983) but since I could not get a new part for my
Bose, I
decided to try Brake Cleaner on the switch. The result has been
outstanding.
