[V8] tires rolling along....

When I took delivery of the "new" 928S4 last fall, it came with new 17"
wheels and Kumho somethingorothers. Aggressive tread design and a
"summer" tire. With my past 928, I used Dunlop SP4000s, which were a Z
rated, "all season" tire that I chose particularly because about nine
month out of the year it is possible for temperatures to really dip into
non-summer temperatures. My intent was to drive the 928 year round
whenever I could, so the all season tires were mandatory. I really
liked the Dunlops and felt that they did very, very well.

Last Spring we bought a set of Kumhos for my partners truck, and they
have been ok.not great.just ok, wore fairly quickly, although the
truck's wheels have taken a beating, so I can't complain, especially
considering the price. In the fall, I replaced the mish-mash tires on
my "new" Chebbie 1-Ton dually 4X4 with Kumho somethingorothers. The
tires were fair, with two of them being square. Putting them on the
inside of the rear dual wheels made most of the vibration go away..the
tires could NOT be effectively balanced. Basically, for the price, I
consider the tires to be excellent.

I haven't driven the Porsche enough yet to make much comment about
them.I am sure that the tires on the Porsche are the same ones that Bart
has on his/my-ex V8.

I am ordering new tires for my 200 20Valve project vehicle which will be
going out of the shop next week probably and into service. I am not
sure what I will buy for that vehicle, but so far my intent is to by
Bridgestone G009s as those tires seem to work very well on my wife's
100CS so far. Again, the problem is getting to be fitment as there
aren't a lot of manufacturers producing the 215/60 size at this point,
and new wheels for the 20valve are NOT in the equation.

I'll report later on what happened. I still wish that I could get a new
set of Firestone Firehawk Touring LS that I bought before. On my '89
200 Quattro Avant, they provided outstanding overall performance, and
during that massive ice storm that we had several years ago the car
hauled 500 pounds of rock salt continuously to put down on the walkways
and driveway around the Inn in Blue Hill, and going over loaded was easy
and surprisingly enough, coming back empty was also.
