[V8] V8 stall downhill in gear

Does anyone know where the computer comes up with the mpg data? I assume it calculated by how much air is sent past the MAF... Could the V8 having the issue of never getting the --- be due to a dirty MAF sensor? (Use caution in cleaning btw)

... as you can infer from my post, both my 5-speed cars show the "---"
display ... sometimes even when I don't want them to ... ;-)

I would not suspect the computer ... not right away at least ... the
first thing I'd do is check to make sure that the idle switch is closing
when the throttle is at idle ... you could have a gunked up TB or
adjustment issue with the TB or TPS ...
