I was thinking a FWD Audi 4000 trans sticking off the back of the PT
block, with the front of the motor right behind the front seats. I
don't think there's a logical FWD transversly-mounted tranny that would
bolt up to the V8 (for that matter, I'm not sure the FWD 4k trans would
bolt up).

All radiator and whatever other accessories would stay up front, and I
guess the axles would be cut off at the CVJ. I'd bet a fuel cell would
have to be mounted up front also, or perhaps use one from a 914. Maybe
weld a protection bar around it.

Forget the a/c and p/s. For me, my scirocco never had either from the
get-go.
