Are you saying that the guage never moves?

There are dash board diagnostics that you can (and probably should) run. Then
you can test the wires from the sender to the guage with a couple of fixed
resistors or a rheostat. I don't have the resistor values handy but they are in
the manual. If this all checks out then you might have a bad sender. This too
can be tested against a thermometer. It would be sort of a PITA but remove the
sender, put an ohm meter on it, put the sensor end in a pan of cold water and
note resistance. Raise the temp of the water while recording the resistance and
thermometer values. Be sure to give the sender time to stabilize before taking
readings. Check your readings against the chart in the manual.

You can test the thermostat in the same way.

I am not sure why you suspect the MAF, but the Air Inlet Temperature sensor is
another good place to look for mileage problems. If the sensor is totally dead -
as in open or shorted the engine diagnostics may pick that up. Otherwise, devise
a way to test it or replace it.
