Very simple, Audi kept the same part number, so if you have a can of the
"old" 7.1 it has the same part number as recommended on the  7.11S cars. 
In other words, Audi has made two completely compatible fluids, using
either in any type 44 (or other application) is OK with Audi, BUT of
course, the more expensive synthetic stuff is just a little bit better,
and Audi thinks you shouldn't mind paying the difference.
