Since there were no criminal charges filed, I think the bus must have had
insurance, or they could be self insured. I think almost all states make
"uninsured motorist" coverage mandatory, which will cover your damages,
and then your company will try to collect from the other guy. Might be
easier to collect than you think.

Probably cheapest thing to do is pick up a parts car, an automatic with a
blown transmission, or other problems but a good body. I'd be surprised
if the insurance company doesn't total the car and offer it back to you
for some small fee (your state may vary, but that's what happens in
mine.)

I was hit on the right front about 3 weeks ago in V8Q #2, 181K miles,
already hit on left rear by snowplow (I assume), and an old hit/run on
the left front fender plus some other damage #1 Son dodges questions
about. Even with this mileage, 15 years on her, and the prior existing
damage, the other guys insurance company still cut me a check for close
to $2K for the damages, which were only in the front fender area. Too
bad the parts car my friend gave me last year (blown trannie) isn't pearl
white...

I suspect you're being a bit optimistic about the damage, from what
you've described sounds like you're going to find an unpleasant surprise
or two when you get her up on a lift. Whatever happens, @#$k it, you're
alive and well, from what you've described a few inches here or there, an
uneven Jersey barrier or the bus driver not waking up, we might be one
lister short today.
