My profuse thanks to Dave and Keith for their valuable hand-holding
advice while I replaced the RPM and TDC sensors on the Gentleman's
Express!
Despite having received the parts in a timely manner from
AudiConnection (and thanks Bruce), I got myself in a time bind and
finally did the job on the Saturday before hurricane Dennis (who
arrived mid-afternoon, Sunday), in a (vain) effort to move the car lest
it be lost to storm surge. Thankfully, Dennis jogged to the east and
we got no surge, because I couldn't get the GE to start after doing the
replacement.
A word to those contemplating this &%$#@ job for the first time: Mark
well one of the old connectors while it is still on the car; and mark
one of the replacement sensors the same way. Take a digital picture of
the marked sensor while it is still on the car.
After you remove the pot-metal sensor holder, mark the holder so that
you know where the new sensor goes. Take a picture of the holder with
the old, marked sensor in place.
Despite many warnings to be sure that I did all this, I had a brain
fart and ended up with both old sensors removed and couldn't swear
which belonged where. Thus, after reassembling and finding that the
car wouldn't start, I had to completely repeat the entire process and
switch the sensors, reassemble and... no start.
[Tut, tut, such language from such a ummmmmm... well, you get the idea]
Decide that I had it right the first time. Guess what. Repeat entire
process...
Turned out to be a dead battery. I know, I know...
Today is the first time I got to reinstall my freshly [re]charged
battery. Turn key, Vrooooooom...
I am too many happy!
Thanks all who helped, and thanks to Jeremy for his pictures on the net!
Yer kindly ol' Unka Bart (vrooooom, off to the gym now...)
