[V8] "CheckEngine/Limp Mode"

Sounds like you already solved this one, but the popping sounds like an ignition
problem to me. It is easy to get water into the distributors too. If the problem
persists, you may want to pull the caps and have a look.

I wash my motor off periodically, but am careful around the caps and have not
had a problem.
