The easy one first - the quantity of oil that goes into the shock outer is
30ccs. Question answered.
On the oil filter from hell problem, from what I gather, the base plate is
all that is left of the filter, and it is right and thoroughly stuck deep,
up and far inside the hole it fits into (no proctologist jokes, please)
with very limited access to work through, and some delicate, precision
surfaces to be careful of (no gynecologist jokes either, please).
The reason the bottom plate won't turn is that the gasket is very stuck to
the mating surface, and there's nothing to grab the plate with.
Thought - how about a body shop style slide hammer with a hook on the end?
Work the hook under the edge of the plate, and work the slide hammer to
bend the edge of the plate downward - this would give something to grip on,
and might even break the gasket loose from the sealing surface.
Don't use the screw tip on the slide hammer, because it might score the
sealing surface when you work it through the base plate - coming in from
the periphery would keep from scratching the seal surface.
This sounds like an altogether miserable task, and I am interested on how
it is finally resolved ("welded a plate over the hole, no oil filter
re-installed").
Best Regards,
Mike Arman
