Not true......I replaced one not even a month ago on a customers car that 
was in backwards. Who ever did replaced the oem short bolts with longer ones 
to do this. You would've thought that would have sent up a red flag that 
something was wrong.........geeez

IIRC, the V8's thermostat cannot be installed backward.  Though I was 5 or 6 
beers deep, so that's a big If..
