[V8] Accelerator pedal Cover Repair

... speaking of team door handle ... while I'm here I thought I'd post
my dilemma on #2 ... 

One day a while back the sole of my shoe caught on the side of the
accelerator pedal and popped the pivoting cover off.  As I've seen
others report, I've been driving the car without the cover, and things
seem to work OK, but I'd like to fix it.  I seem to recall reading that
someone had modified the pedal to provide a new pivot point, but I was
not able to find anything in the archives.  If the person who did this
is still on the list I'd appreciate it if you could repost.  

The funny thing is that I have not been able to ascertain the method
Audi used to provide the pivot point originally ... it almost looks like
there was a thin piece of plastic that would bend back and forth as the
pedal pivoted.
