for me... Took the thin plastic trim off below the IC, then the top 1/2 of

Your description of what you've done so far makes me think Audi used the
100/200 style dashpad/cluster mounting on your RHD car. If that's true you
"should" be able to wiggle it out.
The 100/200 models have a thin trim section that matches the pad under the
cluster and is attached with 3 phillips screws. The cluster is attached to
the dash brace with 2 small allan screws. These cars can be a real bear to
wiggle the cluster out of.
