[V8] Trans question

I had the same problem. The torque converter would lock at idle and
cause the car to stall. Turned out it was just the #1 solenoid. If you
remove the tranny pan, the #1 solenoid is the first one you see. You
can remove it and go to your local Tranny shop, or contact ZF directly
to get the replacement.
However, as long as you are in there, you might want to take the time to
remove the Valve Body and have it rebuilt. Since we didn't know at the
time that the #1 solenoid was the problem, dad and I removed the Valve
body and took it to "Ralph the ghost" to have it rebuilt. Once we got
it back in and all together, Man did that thing shift!!! When the
Kickdown would put the tranny into 2nd at 60 MPH, it would just slam
into gear and take off.
If you need to get a copy of the ZF tranny parts breakdown manual, I'm
sure dad can get a copy to you.

Have you pulled the codes for the transmission? If not, it may be
worthwhile:

Shawn had a similar problem a while back. So long ago in fact that the
car
was pearl white (not red) and had twice as many cylinders! :-) I
believe
his problem turned out to be a solenoid inside the transmission. I
think
the part was a bit pricey, but at least it is accessible w/o removing
the
transmission...
Shawn, this sound like the same problem you were having?
Cheers,

Subject: [V8] Trans question
I just had the heretofore perfect transmission serviced and now there's
a
problem with stalling. Sometimes when I put the car in D or R after a
cold
start
and begin to roll, the engine dies - as if overloaded. Today it quit
just
as
I started-off after stopping for a traffic light. I read that low ATF
can
cause stalling in a TSB so I checked the ATF level after a 15 mile
warm-up
and if
anything, it was on the high side. (Dipstick indicated FULL, my TSB on
that
subject says it should read in the middle of the range.)
Does anyone know what's going on? Are these cars sensitive to different
brands of Dexron ATF? Yikes! Never fix a working system!
Thanks in advance, Craig
