[V8] Failed Emissions Miserably

Before I replaced the O2 sensor, I'd check for voltage to the 02 heater 
(check fuse too)

I'd also look for sources of excess fuel (leaking injector, excess fuel 
pressure, ECM driver failure (use a 'noid light) OR a reason why there might be 
false air (Air leak between MAF and engine) or false air readings (MAF error) 
that would cause lean misfire and excess HC.  The O2 sensor reacts to what is 
coming down the pipe (within limits).  If it detects excess O2, it will throw 
even more fuel at the engine to "compensate".  If there's a massive excess fuel 
source, the 02 can't do too much except to lean the injectors within limits. If 
it's cold it won't do much at all. Some time with a fuel pressure gauge and a 
voltmeter is probably the first order of business. Check f02 heater, fuel 
pressure and then for the ability to hold static pressure. I wouldn't run right 
out an buy another 02 sensor just yet.

I will do that but the 02 sensor is only a year old.  Is there anything that
could have damaged the 02 sensor?  If that is the case I want to fix that
before I replace and have it go bad again.  Thanks for the quick reply.
