On my '91 V8 PT there ARE timing marks on the cam pulleys (little holes in
the web perimeter)! There just aren't any that match on the engine...so I
make some (center punch a dot on the surface of the engine where the covers
mate that lines up with the timing mark)...before you take off the tension.
Once you have carefully removed the old belt and retensioned the new you know
instantly if you are off by a tooth or more by looking at these marks and TDC
for the crank. Gotta agree with Roland on this one. At least for me, this
is a far easier, faster system that doesn't have all the risks associated
with major surgery of the engine (or for that matter front bumper, radiator,
oil cooler, etc).
