It's 3rd behind twist sockets and gear wrenches in my book.

Travel in the tie rod, with the ball joint out you can swing the strut
more than enough to push the axle out.

Since everything can be done in the car as needed, I prefer to let
sleeping dogs lie.  For rear wheel bearings the Hub Shark is the only way
to go, especially for salt belt mobiles.  Also, the original poster
wanted to get the job done the next morning so he could travel, can't see
doing that without using an on car tool, even then if something gets
stuck or breaks forget it.
