I don't think you will ever get an after market unit to use this display. It is
a very propriatary unit for Audi only.
However, it seems to use a very simple communication scheme (one data line, one
clock - I did look at it once :-).
If the right fella (meaning a electronics geek with lots of time on his hands)
were properly inclined, this could be a fun microcontroller project.
You could use the display for just about anything you wanted. I always thought a
boost controller would be cool - but then I would have to get some turbos....
Also cool would be a diagnostic code display. Believe it or not, I don't think
the aforementioned geek would have all that much trouble with that one. There
are off the shelf chips out there already that convert the diagnostic bus to
RS-232. I believe the codes for this ECU are also known.
