[V8] 1990 V8 Battery warning

Hello,Have a 1990 V8 for about 4 years. Battery warning light has been coming on for a couple of years on and off but usually with more load imposed on alt.Had alt rebuilt with higher output regulator to increase voltage to about 14.5 hoping that the battery warning light would not be tripped.I feel that the cluster is for some reason sensing lower voltage and tuning on the light.It is charging at least 14.5 all the time.Once the light comes on it will stay on till you restart the car.It is charging fine even when the light is on.Any help out there for this problem????
