[V8] failing abs?

Roger,
Went through this for a few years on a "rebuilt" unit in my White Mariah.
Use in heavy rain and splashes induced from the RF wheel would drop the Alt
output to flat until it "dried" out and RPMs went back up. With refresh
time growing increasingly worrisome over time!
If you search for alts on-line, you will note that many sources reference a
Bosch "TSB" #B-85 regarding use of this alt in high moisture/wet environs.
I have not been able to get a copy, but I bet it revolves around the
cooling snorkel feeding water directly into the alt! My unit finally fried
as it went from OK to a dead battery over night. I suspected a shorted
Vregulator, but the retaining bolts were seized so the local FLAPS just
replaced the whole thing under a lmtd lifetime warr.
I bet your Vregulator is gone, as was mine. Pretty easy to R&R as is the
alt if you want to tackle it. ~$200 for the whole thing from AutoZone.
Blowing through your way again Tues if you need a hand. As for a perfect
body 20V avant, might be able to help there as well.

Then today in the rain, as I was turning a corner in a deep puddle, my
alternator light came on to stay. I turned around and went home, but the
battery shows a steady discharge, so I guess the alternator is going to
have
to be overhauled. What will probably happen is that the car will go back
to
the wrench for all of this.
