I believe you have discovered a feature of the transmission controller.
It is supposed to do this to warm up the engine quicker. In really cold climates
this would be a big benifit.
And - yes - I believe the antilock can cause the center diff issue you have.
On the other hand, I have a 5-speed so I may be full of Bush on both counts.
