I've bought 2 V8's from private owners. Both 1990's...one very high mileage, but with outstanding service records...one lower mileage with almost no service records.

I can't say I regret the purchase of either, since I love the cars, but I would never buy another V8 from a private owner without service records that show that the owner has made a reasonable attempt to keep the car in good mechanical shape. 

If I went goofy and bought another V8 (keeping up two of them is plenty for now), I'd definitely look at GermanCarConnection. I've been on the list on and off, but have always read really good things about Bruce, his knowledge, and the quality of his service.
