[V8] Loss of power steering assist and brake light coming on

Hi guys
  A happy new year to all. Mine started with a problem with the V8Q. When I turn the steering wheel left or right, especially at lower speeds or when applying the brake it seems to lose power assist and I have to muscle it through the turn. At the same time the parking brake light comes on or flickers. Any ideas as to what the problem may be? Steering rack? Change the front brakes? Power steering fluid? Has anyone had the same problem before? BTDT? Any comments, ideas, solutions are welcome. TIA.
