[V8] Removing front shocks/tool #2069

Hi all.  I was looking in my manual to prepare for the first real mechanical surgery I've had to do since getting the car 4 years ago. (just turned over 83,000mi) Pg. 40-80-1 shows removing the front "shock" using special tool 3078(cutaway looking socket)...and #2069 which in the pic looks like a deep socket, but I'm guessing has more to it....this method looks much more fun than removing whole assembly.  Just looking input on tool #2069 and how you've done it(as I guess the bulk of the list has probably done this before....sincerely Tom laplante
