Wow, your mom's a wild one. :)

I haven't had direct experience, but from what I've read on
the 'net, Ins. Co.s low-ball you with a first offer. Show
them a list of similar cars with higher prices, and then
show them a stack of receipts (especially the big bill for
the t-belt) -- they will probably come back with a better
offer. Push a little harder, they may offer still more.
For a little effort, it's worth a shot.
