Thanks Ingo,.
I removed  all the paraphernelia that you mentioned ,the hoses are old
and hardened but it's no way I can tell if they leak anywhere.
I run the engine with the air box removed but the suction noise is too
much to hear anything else.
I did hear from the vicinity of (drivers side ) the ignition coil or
distributor a clicking sound that wasn't there before. It may be the
clue to my problem or maybe not.
