Doesn't the engine block adapter have a gasket or o-rings where
it contacts the block? I'd clean the area really good (using
Simple Green or carb cleaner), then sprinkle talcum powder around
the area to help highlight the leak. If the leak is that bad, it
shouldn't take too long for the leak to appear.

Oh, no. You have to blow a hose and dump quarts of oil -- more
than once -- to be a bad puppy. :)
