[V8] Maximizing Fuel Economy

I've been contemplating the same thing ... funny, I've got two
ostensibly identical cars, neither is generating any codes. My first
car seems to do pretty well on fuel (for a V8) ... I see mid 20's on the
freeway. The other car seems to barely crack 20. Neither car is
generating fault codes. Both cars seem to have properly functioning
coolant thermostats, but the one getting the worst mileage seems to need
a thermostat for the oil cooler. On that one the oil temp barely gets
up to the min operating range on the gauge. I've already done the OXS
and FPR ... I was thinking about the coolant temp sensor too. That
second car is due a smog test ... so it will be getting a tune up ...

Anyone else have any ideas for what might be different? The second car
has an engine from an automatic in it.
