[V8] It's that time of year...related to O2 Sensor Gas Mileage Thread :-)

Wow, I've seen so many listers with the same gas mileage issues
regarding the O2 sensor, fuel pressure, etc. I hate to say misery
enjoys company but I'm glad I am not the only one. I though I was going
crazy after my third O2 sensor and then my temp switch change. My gas
mileage has also been weird. Highway I can get 23-27 MPG but city is
13-15 MPG. It is really hurting the pocket.
For those who have been involved and care, please tell me you care, my
power steering rack gets installed tomorrow. I'm not lying! It really
is. Once that is done I will tackle (to be translated: I will be the
monkey boy, those that would like to help that actually have mechanical
expertise...TFH, Ingo, are you out there...hehehe, will actually do most
of the tackling, please!!!) some of the smaller stuff. Breather hoses,
repositioning of the reference and temp. sensor, maybe brake lines, etc.
If the mechanic doing the rack does a good job, I will have him start
doing some of the heavier stuff (tie rods, suspension, maybe timing
belt). He is charging me $300.00 to do the Rack (I am giving him the
rack) and he is throwing in the Pentosin. What do you think? Good
deal? I have no choice since the car is going through a gallon of
liquid a day.
New problem: This rarely happens but 2 times now when I turn on the car
(cold start) the temperature gauge reads way past 100 and both fans
start spinning super fast. Of course, the A/C won't work (really bad
thing when it is 116 Fahrenheit) and after a couple of minutes or after
turning the car off and on a couple of times, the tem. Will go back to
normal and the A/C will work again...has anyone ever seen this? I am
guessing temp/coolant. sensor on the driver side on the engine since it
is the only sensor that has not been replaced. Instead of guessing I
would prefer a more professional opinion.
One more thing, my new coolant tank (about 5 months old) has developed a
leak at the seams (yay, woohoo). What would anyone on this list
recommend in regards to some type of adhesive to fill that seam or
should I spend another $30.00 on a coolant reservoir tank?
As always, all help is appreciated.
